In recent years there has been a steady decline in the reliability of traction motors of mine electric locomotives. One reason for this is the lack of reliable means of temperature control. Known methods of temperature control are either too complex to implement, give big errors or are unreliable in their application on mine electric locomotive given harsh operating environment. For this reason for example a known temperature control system utilising standard double-frame logometer is not applicable due to the fragility of the needle mechanism in high vibration environment which is encountered during the operation of an electric locomotive. Thus, the proposed future development of the temperature control systems is based on the replacement of electromechanical way of data conversion into a completely electronic way. Instead of an analog meter, a semiconductor converter is used which divides the voltage within the field winding on to the current through the winding. Voltage and current are scaled. The received signal indirectly, taking into a count temperature coefficient, is a signal, the amount of which depends on the temperature of the winding.
