M.V. Zagirnyak was born on September 25, 1947. He graduated with honors from Lugansk Machine Construction Institute. After that he worked at Lugansk Diesel-Locomotive-Construction Works as an engineer. Later he served in the Army.
From 1971 till 2002 he took up posts of a research worker, a senior teacher, an associate professor, a department head, a pro-rector of East-Ukrainian Volodymyr Dal National University.
As a winner of contests for long-term USA government grants according to IREX (Electrical Engineering – 1983-84), Fulbright (Education Management – 1997-98) programs, he worked at Kentucky and Texas Universities.
In November 2002 he was elected rector of Kremenchuk University and has been at the head of it till the present time.
He is a prominent specialist in the sphere of electromechanics, his achievements include: development of magneto-separation techniques and explosion-proof electrical equipment according to government scientific and technical programs; development and generalization of methods of pulley magnetic separator design, offer of a number of completely new magnetic separator designs and their manufacturing application at enterprises of Ukraine and CIS with a significant economic profit; offer and practical realization of the tendency to improve power characteristics of induction motors due to the use of a new rotor design, as well as enhancement of mass and dimension characteristics of explosion-proof electrical motors by means of application of new high-performance cooling circuits.
He is the author of more than 400 research papers including five monographs, eight brochures, four textbooks and six tutorials approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, 41 certificates of authorship and 21 patents for invention.
He is the leader of research projects connected with the Program of research and technical cooperation of Ukraine and Slovenia.
He is the head of a specialized academic council awarding Doctor’s and Ph.D.’s degrees at KrNU, a member of such a council at Kharkiv National University of Technology “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute”. Leader of the “Electromagnetic and Electromechanical Processes in Electric Machines and Devices” seminar of the Academic Council of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, dealing with the complex problem of “Scientific fundamentals of electrical power engineering”. He is a member of the Higher School Academic Council of European and Regional Studios (Czech Budiyovice, Czech Republic). List of publications
