EXTREMUM-SEEKING REGULATOR FOR ACTIVE SHUNT POWER FILTER
Abstract:

The new concept of intellect control system for active power filters is presented. Proposed control algorithm doesn’t have the need to calculate components of networks apparent power. The main part of intellect control system of active power filter is extremum-seeking regulator with indirect method of finding networks active power. The extremum-seeking feedback loop is external to the DC voltage stabilizing feedback loop in control system.Extremum-seekingcontrol system provides the finding of optimum voltage level of DC link capacitor. This DC link voltage level is one of the main parameters which determine the quality of compensation.

Proposed control system can be synthesized by the any method of active power filter control which uses the value of active power or its equivalent (for example, IRP p-q theory or Fryze method). Presented control system allows to create devices with less number of sensors and to maintain optimum energy flow correction.

The work also shows the results of physical modeling of shunt active power filter based on the new control method. Experimental device which is built on the basis of proposed new control method can work in regimes of higher current harmonic mitigation, compensation of reactive power and balancing load currents. Also the experimental device has the ability to work in the power net with non-sinusoidal non-symmetrical voltage.
